Hanif Harji began his career in hospitality with the Second Cup franchise in Toronto, Canada. Over a short 5-year period he became the country’s largest multi-unit operator of Second Cup Cafes. Hanif’s trans-global style transcends the “here and now” moving beyond superficial trends to deliver timeless,
sophisticated, sexy and avant garde restaurants and bars. He is an artist with the ability to synthesize a concept or space that evokes thought and emotion. As President of ICON Legacy Hospitality, Maher Murshed is responsible for the corporate affairs, design and construction, technology, human resource management, and in-depth training paths and support CEO with operational management for all of ICON’s current and future operations. Maher has facilitated the swift growth and development of the company’s hospitality business lines – hotel and restaurant operations, concept development, consulting, architecture/design and establishing ICON’s presence in international markets. His experience and knowledge in the construction, architecture, hospitality and education field have proven to be an invaluable resource for concept development, operational management, and organizational structure of ICON’s hospitality related ventures. In addition to his involvement in ICON, Maher Murshed is chairman of the Ascent Group – a company that owns and operates a diverse portfolio of companies in South Asia. The Ascent Group is comprised of a variety of companies which focus on education, retailing, and construction. Through these core competencies the Ascent Group has developed branches which focus on information technology, information systems, transport and logistics, training and professional development, and off-set printing. Through Maher’s direction the Ascent Group has established itself as a leader in a diverse mix of business sectors and continues to experience rapid growth and expansion. Eric Malcolmson oversees all of ICON Legacy Hospitality’s operations of third-party owned hotel and restaurant assets as well as advisory services and real estate investments. With more than 20 years of experience in all facets of hospitality development, acquisitions and operations, Eric leads all aspects of the company’s involvement with creating hotel and restaurant concepts, operating successful properties and providing turn-key hospitality advisory solutions.
Eric’s passion for creating great hotels and restaurants was fueled by an early start to his career in a number of operations roles at Mövenpick Restaurants and Four Seasons Hotels in Toronto. Having been involved with the acquisition, development and repositioning of numerous full-service hotels and resorts throughout the Americas, Middle East and Asia, Eric has developed a particular specialty in repositioning hotel assets, developing full-service hotels from concept through to opening, asset management, branding, and hotel investment/acquisition. Eric has led the development and acquisition of landmark hotels and resorts, including the Fairmont Pittsburgh, Fairmont Battery Wharf (Boston), Fairmont Mayakoba (Riviera Maya, Mexico), and Turnberry Isle Resort (Miami). Prior to joining ICON, Eric was formerly Vice President, Development for Fairmont Raffles Hotels International where he was involved in the development and acquisition of hotels throughout the Americas and the Middle East, as well as held a number of corporate finance, hotel advisory and investment sales roles at HLT Advisory Inc., PricewaterhouseCoopers and Colliers International Hotel Realty. Eric is a member of the invitation-only International Society of Hotel Consultants and is a frequent speaker at numerous industry conferences.
